Our Mentors
  • CARA J. CHANG

    Cara is the 150th president of The Harvard Crimson, managing a newspaper staff of nearly 350 editors. Before her election to the head of the newspaper, Cara was a digital strategist and a senior news reporter covering labor and Harvard University’s central administration. Besides reporting for and leading The Crimson, Cara also served as president of the Harvard Undergraduate Mock Trial Association. She is currently a senior studying history and political science, specializing in twentieth century American history. A New York City native, Cara spent many years abroad, attending Hong Kong International School and Seoul Foreign School.

  • CYNTHIA V. LU

    Cynthia is a rising senior at Harvard studying Applied Math with a minor in English. As the The Crimson’s 150th business manager, she oversees the $500k financial and operational foundation of the oldest continuously published collegiate student newspaper in the U.S., and is particularly focused on revenue initiatives that align with The Crimson’s educational mission. Having come from an extensive creative writing background, her work has also been published by The Adroit Journal, Rust+Moth, and more. In her free time, she enjoys painting, museums, and good espresso.

  • JULIAN G. GIORDANO

    Julian is a student at Harvard College and the chair of the Multimedia board at The Harvard Crimson, where he leads a team of 60 journalists creating photo, video, and audio content for the paper. During his term, video and photo production have quadrupled and The Crimson has launched its first flagship news podcast, Newstalk. In addition to his Chair responsibilities, Giordano is also a staff writer and designer. Giordano is the recipient of the Society of Professional Journalists' 2022 Mark of Excellence Award for General News Photography. Outside of The Crimson, he studies History and French and does radio broadcasting for WHRB Cambridge.

  • DEREK S. CHANG

    Derek is a rising senior at Harvard College studying economics and statistics. His academic interests in macroeconomic policy and finance have led him to pursue research with notable professors including Larry Summers, Jeremy Stein, and Ken Rogoff, among others. He is currently the Associate Business Manager at The Harvard Crimson, overseeing the newspaper’s operational working and ideating new revenue initiatives for the business. In his free time, Derek enjoys running, watching sports, and reading.

  • MEREDITH W. B. ZIELONKA

    Meredith is a junior from Boston, Massachusetts studying Government and the Modern Middle East. She is especially interested in peacebuilding and conflict resolution. She is President of Harvard Model Congress Middle East, in addition to her work staffing other HMC conferences. She is also a Strategist for The Harvard Crimson’s Business Board and she does research in the Government Department. In her free time, she enjoys listening to music, cooking, puzzles and traveling.

  • MATTHEW M. DOCTOROFF

    Matthew is a rising junior at Harvard studying Economics and Environmental Science and Public Policy. He is currently the Marketing Manager for The Harvard Crimson, where he prioritizes the use of analytics, ideation, and design to expand the outreach of the Crimson. His interest in the journalism space first developed when he was the editor-in-chief of his high school newspaper, The Berkley Spectator. Matthew also loves sports, camping, and learning about urban planning.

  • LIAM A. PETERSON

    Liam is a Boston native and a rising senior at Harvard College. He currently studies economics, East Asian studies, and has a language citation in Chinese. His passion for exploring different cultures and perspectives led him to study abroad in Beijing, where he gained valuable insights and experiences. Currently, he serves as the manager of the Global Programs department at the Harvard Crimson, overseeing the planning and execution of various conferences and events. Outside of his academic and professional pursuits, Liam enjoys reading, weightlifting, and playing board games.

  • KELLY P. KIM

    Kelly is a rising junior at Harvard studying Psychology and Economics, and a New York native. She is the Manager of The Crimson’s Global Programs department, responsible for overseeing the execution of the educational branch of The Harvard Crimson through both national and international conferences and competitions. Outside of The Crimson, Kelly explores her interest in behavioral economics through various ventures, and her love for music as a DJ for WHRB 95.3FM. Beyond her extracurricular pursuits, Kelly enjoys strength training, discovering new music, and exploring new spots with friends.

  • ELLA DOTZLER

    Ella Dotzler is a first-year at Harvard College planning to concentrate in Social Studies with a plan to attend law school later on. She grew up in Big Lake, Minnesota and enjoyed ballet, tennis, working at Target, and student government. At Harvard, Ella is involved on the Crimson Business Board, a couple of Institute of Politics programs, and Harvard Model Congress. She is looking forward to meeting you all!
